| Description | Heberden at the age of 86. He was educated at St John's College, Cambridge University, where he graduated BA (1728) and MD (1739). He became a senior fellow of the college and practised medicine for about ten years in the university. In 1746 Heberden became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, and three years later a fellow of the Royal Society. He became a very eminent and respected physician of the 18th century. The detailed patient notes that he took down at his practice formed the basis of his 'Commentaries'. |
