Takedown Policy

The University of Edinburgh Art Collection recognises that some of the materials it makes accessible online may cause concern or offence. The information, images and other media that comprise the digital collections are drawn from artworks spanning many centuries and from a variety of cultural contexts. If you have any concerns about any of the material included in our collections, please contact us at HeritageCollections@ed.ac.uk.

Copyright

Where we believe items in the Art Collection to be in copyright we make every effort to seek permission from the copyright holders to reproduce them online. If you believe that we have inadvertently breached your copyright, please contact us at HeritageCollections@ed.ac.uk. Please include enough information for us to identify the work, and we will respond within 5 working days.

Data Protection

Digitised images of artworks may contain personal data, such as the names and likenesses of individuals. The University has a legitimate interest in digitising and making available its collections. If you believe that the inclusion of personal data in our digitised collections is causing, or is likely to cause, substantial damage or distress, please contact us at HeritageCollections@ed.ac.uk.

Sensitive Content

The Art Collection may contain material which some visitors may find offensive or distressing, whether for its language, imagery or content. Such content will not normally be removed as it represents the historic record of artistic practice and cultural attitudes. Where appropriate we will add contextual information or content warnings.
