Loans

Loans In

Occasionally the Art Collection borrows artworks from other institutions or individuals for display in University buildings or for specific events. Loans In are negotiated with the lender via a loan agreement form, which is co-signed by both parties and specifies conditions of the loan including its duration, insurance, care and handling requirements, and any applicable costs. A Government Indemnity can also be applied for to cover the risk of loss or damage to the work on the University's premises.

Loans Out

Artworks in the Art Collection may be available for loan for public display at other venues. To enquire about borrowing a work, contact the Art Collections team at: HeritageCollections@ed.ac.uk. Please note that loan requests should ideally be made up to 12 months in advance.

Potential borrowers will need to complete the University's Facilities Report and fulfil any conditions relating to the display and care of the artwork before a loan can be agreed. Loans Out are formalised via a loan agreement form, co-signed by both parties, which specifies the conditions of the loan.
