Licensing

Use of images from this site, or any derivative works, can only be made with permission in advance. Images are provided for the purposes of research, private study or review. Any intended commercial use, or use involving reproduction of images in a publication, must be discussed with the copyright holder prior to use. Please contact us at HeritageCollections@ed.ac.uk.

Images provided by University Heritage Collections

Images provided by the University of Edinburgh Heritage Collections can be made available for commercial and non-commercial use under licence.

For published reproductions, a print quality image (at least 300 dpi at the size of reproduction) will be provided, for which a licensing fee is payable. Publication licences are for once only, worldwide, English language use. For any other use, please contact us for a quote.

Use of images for commercial purposes is charged at full rate plus VAT. Non-commercial / scholarly use is charged at a reduced rate. A further discount is available for University of Edinburgh researchers. All applications for use of images are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Heritage Collections also make a selection of their images available through Scran. Scran provide free educational use of images and additional licenses for further uses (broadcast, websites, commercial use).

Images provided by ArtUK

Many of our images are also available via ArtUK. ArtUK provide a range of licences for use of images through their site. For further information see the ArtUK Image Licensing page.
