| Title | Sir Thomas Henry Holland |
| Description | Sir Thomas, seated at half length in a carved chair with a mortar board in his left hand examines the onlooker. The silver braid of the Vice-Chancellor's gown and the blue satin of his LLD hood combine with warm flesh tones and decorations to give a rich effect. The figure is placed against a plain background, relieved by the University arms and an inscription to the left of the sitter: 'Sir Thomas Henry Holland KCSI, KCIE, LLD, FRS VICE-CHANCELLOR EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY'. This is a less ambitious if more lively image than the Cursiter portrait of the same sitter painted in the same year also in possession of the University. |
