| Description | John Forbes was a student of both Aberdeen and Edinburgh universities. At Edinburgh he took the diploma of surgery and then in 1807 joined the navy as assistant-surgeon. He returned to study at the University of Edinburgh and graduated MD in 1817. Forbes practised in Penzance, Chichester and London and became physician to the queen's household in 1840. He was made a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1845 and then eight years later was knighted. Forbes was the chief founder of the important 'British and Foreign Medical Review.' |
