| Title | Dead Christ with Angels |
| Date | 1616 |
| Period | 17th century ; 1610s |
| Description | This work is a colour modello for the lunette of the Dead Christ with Angels now in the sacristy of S Angelo, Milan, which formerly decorated the doorway separating two cloisters of Sant Angelo. This modello would have represented a fairly well realised version of the final painting. Procaccini shows the dead Christ surrounded by several grieving angels. Mary Magdalen is also shown, tenderly holding Christ's hand. The more triumphant emotional mood in the final painting signifies a change in theological content, lessening the sense of immediate grief and emphasising the hope for eternal salvation in Christ's sacrifice. Valsecchi gives this painting a date of 1615-16. |
