| Title | Torso of a Venus |
| Description | Depiction of a torso of Venus in dark grey marble, looped drapery to her left, red marble slab support and base. Head, arms and lower legs are missing. The drapery next to this female nude helps to identify her as the Greek goddess Venus. The so called Capitoline type of sculpture of this goddess shows her standing after a bath, as she begins to cover her breasts with her right hand, and her groin with her left hand. A cloth with which she dries herself is often used as a stable base weight next to her slender legs in contra posto position. This cloth is also visible in the torso here, and next to that her hip shows a rough area where the arm covering up her genitals was attached to the torso. |
