By the late 19th century the most common valve found on cornets was the Périnet piston valve and this continues today. This instrument, made during a time when the cornet was the dominant high-brass instrument in both the orchestra and in brass bands, would be considered a modern cornet with its three piston valves and compact tube wrapping. It also has lovely engraving on bell – decoration that was done by hand.
Inscribed "COMPENSATING PISTONS" but in fact the valves are not compensating systems, but 'full double' principle with the valve loops of the 2nd and 3rd valves duplicated. With shanks for Bb and A, two tuning bits, and music card-holder.
