The accordion has travelled the world and influenced many musical styles. This ‘one man band’ was brought to the Americas by immigrants leaving Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Already used in polka and other styles of music throughout its native Europe, the accordion became an integral sound of North and South American Cajun, zydeco, norteño, and tango music amongst others. Keyboard 2 half octaves G-E, 48 buttons. This instrument belonged to and was played by donors' mother, Irene Rowley (neé Macaulay); born in Portobello 24.6.25, died in Edinburgh 9.10.76.
