Nominal pitch: 4½-ft B♭. 3 valves. 'Besson' was at this time a trade name of Boosey and Hawkes. Technical description: Model 706; silver-plated brass; water-key and fitting for music card holder (complete with lyre); ligature tuning slide at bell section joint; two rings for banner. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, bottom sprung; alignment by key on piston. Overall size: 980; bell 113. Sounding length: minimum 1315. Bore: mouthpipe at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 9.1; m.t.s. at c 215mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning-slide bore 10.9; centre of valve cluster at c 584mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 10.95; at 658mm from bell end, c. 10.95; at c 296mm from bell end, 15.45; at 13.1mm from bell end, 68.5. B = 0.64. Bell cutoff = 1500 Hz. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 11.1 - 10.1. Inscribed on bell: monogram FR / "BESSON / LONDON / 700 / BOOSEY & HAWKES / ENGLAND"; on mouthpipe "706-740941". With original fitted case, covered in black leathercloth. Usable pitch: B♭ at A⁴ = 440 Hz. Formerly used with E♭ soprano fanfare trumpet (5852), B-flat tenor fanfare trumpet (5757) and G bass fanfare trumpet (5758). Specific usage history: Used by Welsh Guards 1987-2007 in group of seven.
