Description3 valves. `Besson' was at this time a trade name of Boosey & Hawkes. Technical description: Model 708; silver-plated brass; bell section detachable by screwed joint; water-key and fitting for music card holder; two rings for banner. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, bottom sprung; alignment by key on piston. Overall size: 1173; bell 155. Sounding length: minimum 3205. Bore: mouthpipe at c 25mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 11.5; m.t.s. at c 836mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 13.05; centre of valve cluster at c 1531mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 13.05; at 1603mm from bell end, c 13.3; at c 671mm from bell end, 18.8; at 17.0mm from bell end, 114.0. B = 0.69. Bell cutoff = 800 Hz. Bore: m.t.s. 13.1; v.t.s.(1,2,3) 13.1. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.9 - 11.9. Inscribed on bell: monogram FR / "BESSON / LONDON / 700 / BOOSEY & HAWKES / ENGLAND"; on mouthpiece ferrule "708 738183". Decorative features: mother of pearl buttons. With original fitted wooden case, covered in black leathercloth. Usable pitch: Bb at A4 = 440 Hz. Formerly used with Eb soprano fanfare trumpet (5852), B flat melody fanfare trumpet (5756) and B flat tenor fanfare trumpet (5757); purchased with and possibly formerly used with bass trombone mouthpiece (5759).
