Description
Technical description: Boxwood; [5 sections]; silver keys and 2 cutters; ivory ferrules and studs; left-hand pipe has 7 finger-holes, and keys for D and D♯; right-hand pipe has 5 finger-holes, and keys for C (thumb, with ebony plug in key-hole), B and D♯; very small finger-holes; lowest finger-hole on each pipe may be for C♯, or a vent-hole; [two-part] wind-cap. Keymount type: ring/knob.
Keyhead type: flat square, notched and chamfered.
Performance characteristics: Not playable in present condition; [lowest six-finger note (LH pipe) sounds D⁵].
Stamped "BAINBRIDGE / & WOOD / 35 / HOLBORN / HILL / LONDON / PATENT" and on wind-cap "BAINBRIDGE / INVENTOR / HOLBORN / HILL / LONDON / PATENT"; stamped with note names and numbers by respective finger-holes except lowest hole on each pipe (may be vent-holes). |
