Description3-valve compensating. Serial number: instrument 47433; valves 40355. According to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was "Eb Bombardon", Model A86, made by Cave in a batch of 6. Technical description: Silver-plated brass. 3-valve compensating system: 3rd valve brings loop into windway which passes through 1st and 2nd valves, these have short additional loops which are brought into the windway when used in combination with the third valve. Repair History: Main tuning-slide has been extended to lower pitch from A₄ = 452.4 Hz to A₄ = 440 Hz. Overall size: 773; bell 326. Sounding length: with actual extended tuning slide, minimum 4113. Bore: mouthpipe at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 13.15; centre of valve cluster at c 405mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 16.5; m.t.s. at c 330mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bores 17.5 - 18.55; at 2057mm from bell end, c 30.5; at c 1377mm from bell end, 43.15. B = 0.43. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 13.7- . Stamped on bell "CLASS. A" / trumpet and banner trademark incorporating "TRADE MARK" and "BOOSEY" / "COMPENSATING PISTONS / BOOSEY & CO. / MAKERS / 295 REGENT STT. / LONDON / 47433"; on side of 2nd valve "14" / diamond shaped trademark containing letters "P", "C", "G", "S" and pattern of 13 circles / "TRADE" "MARK" / "40355"). |
