DescriptionTechnical description: Cocus; 5 sections; silver keys; 6 chased silver ferrules; silver embouchure-barrel; graduated screw-stopper with metal tip; metal-lined head; metal tuning-slide; large oval embouchure-hole; large L2, R1 and R2 finger-holes; flattened area around right-hand finger-holes (definitely an original feature, as an inscription is clearly stamped across this area); cork-lapped tenons; ivory inlay between wood and metal of foot socket; this flute does not have the depressions for L1 and R0 often found on Nicholson's Improved instruments. R0: Keymount type: knob. Keyhead type: saltspoon, with pewter plugs and metal key-hole surrounds for low C/C♯. |
