DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; 4 sections; silver keys; 5 ivory ferrules; [graduated] screw-stopper; circular embouchure-hole; overlapping low C / C♯ touches; F key-hole on farside. Keymount type: ring/ knob, with metal pins through low C and C♯ keymounts. Keyhead type: flat square, notched and chamfered. Repair History: Embouchure-hole probably enlarged. Overall size: 680mm Sounding length: embouchure to foot, 604mm Bore: conical Stamped with fleur-de-lis and "I. HALE / LONDON", and on upper body, "4" suggesting that this may be the largest of three corps-de-rechange (4, 5, 6) or possibly one of six. C♯ key touchpiece stamped on back "I.H" indicating John Hale. Inner tenon of screw-cap scratched "N1 3NL" with the second "N" reversed. Performance characteristics: Range C⁴ - C⁷. C⁴ - D⁴ do not speak well due to crack in foot and poor pad closure. Remaining range speaks freely except highest notes. Usable pitch: A⁴ c 440 Hz. |
