DescriptionTechnical description: Silver-plated brass; plated inner slides. The inner slide stay of two parallel adjacent tubes. Slide lock; ligature fitting at joint. Two rings on each stocking (for oil?). Probably originally supplied with alternative tuning-slides for high and low pitch. Overall size: 1100; bell 167. Bore: at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore), 10.6; descending slide, 11.9; ascending slide, 11.9; m.t.s. bore, 13.2 - 15.8. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 11.6 - 10.9. Inscribed on bell "THE CABARET" / hawk & globe trademark / "HAWKES & SON / MAKERS / DENMAN STREET / PICCADILLY CIRCUS / LONDON.W. / 57994"; on slide section at mouthpiece receiver "HAWKES / & SON / LONDON". Decorative features: Floral engraving on bell; embellished stay mounts and ferrules. Playing accessories: Music card holder; balance weight. With black shaped side opening case, probably original. Probable alternative tuning slide missing. Clip from music card holder missing. Usable pitch: Old Philharmonic pitch with present tuning-slide. Purchased by lender with and possibly formerly used with mouthpiece (3005). |
