DescriptionTechnical description: Unusual early integral valve horn in which a short mouthpipe leads into a tuning-slide followed by a valve cluster situated close to left hand position, permitting short valve stems; Short tuning-slides enabling use of crooks above F when pushed in. The third valve slide is elegantly re-curved to give cruciate double slide. Metal construction: yellow brass; seamed gusseted bell, garland width 40; all other segments seamed. With French pattern F crook. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves (the valves look identical to a trumpet cluster). Signature marks: Inscribed on bell "C. MAHILLON / FOURNISSEUR BREVETE / DE L'ARMEE / ET DES / CONSERVATOIRES / BRUXELLES"; on crook "FA". Repair History: Tear in main tube. Bell garland has been cut, possibly to be removed to facilitate bell repair. Overall size: Corpus diameter 330; bell diameter 278. Sounding length: mouthpipe length 120; segment length from distal end of ferrule after valves 663; bell segment length 933. Bore: v.t.s. (3,2,1) 11.1; m.t.s. 11.5. Bell flare: - Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. of crook 8.2 at end; crook receiver taper on body 12.8 - 11.8. General usage of type: Orchestral / band. Usable pitch: Not ascertainable.
