Technical description: brass; 3 valve; two water-keys; two very similar long shanks. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, top sprung with compression spring outside narrow stem; alignment by key on piston. Maker: Distin & Co. London. Circa 1865. Serial number: instrument and valves 6401. Overall size: 319; bell 124. Sounding length: overall length of shank (a) 91.7; shank (b) 92.0. Bore: m.t.s. 11.6; v.t.s. (3,2,1) 11.6. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. of shanks (a) & (b) 9.4 9.0; shank/crook receiver on instrument body 12.0 10.8. External taper of shanks (a) and (b) 11.2 12.2. Stamped on bell with trumpet and banner trademark incorporating "DISTIN" / "DISTIN & COS / Patent Light Valve / CORNET / APPROVED BY / Levy / MANUFACTORY 9 & 10 GRT. NEWPORT ST. / LONDON / 6401" with the "os" of "Cos" in superscript; on right side of 3rd valve "9"; on right side of 2nd valve at top, "8" / words forming an ellipse "DISTIN * LONDON *", no trace of "MAKER" inside; at bottom "6401"; on right side of 1st valve "7"; on top and bottom caps "7" ...
