Technical description: Wooden stick with heavy leather-covered wooden head. Light wood handle tapers from 18mm diameter at the end ferrule to 13mm diameter at the narrowest. It tapers back out towards the head. Total mass 190g; head mass 135g (71%).
General usage of type: possibly for marching band bass drum. Specific usage history: possibly bought or made for demonstration use in the music theory classes of Professor John Donaldson in the University of Edinburgh c 1859.
