DescriptionOverall size: perpendicular to bell 418. Corpus diameter 340; bell diameter 264. Sounding length: segment lengths: from distal end of tuning slide ferrule 404; bell segment 912. Bore: v.t.s. (1,2,3) 10.8; m.t.s. 11.8. Bell wall angle at D=100mm, 25.05. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 8.0 at end. Technical description: Unusual transitional model; fixed mouthpipe. Yellow brass with german silver ferrules and bell garland. Valve loops sweep through 90 with tuning slides pointing upwards towards player. Very small gusset in bell; garland width 32. Valve type: 3 rotary valves, small, closely spaced; slender touchpieces and linkages to upper screw at rotors. Inscribed on bell garland "W Beck in Creuzburg". Restored prior to acquisition; old ferrules preserved. Usable pitch: Plays at 50 cents above A4 = 440 Hz with tuning slide in. Plays at A4 = 446 Hz with slide pulled out 30mm; plays at A4 = 440 Hz with slide pulled out 70mm. Performance characteristics: A strain to play does not speak easily. Valves give reasonable intonation. Purchased by lender with mouthpiece (3118). |
