Technical description: Silver-plated brass. 3-valve compensating system: 3rd valve brings loop into windway which passes through 1st and 2nd valves, these have short additional loops which are brought into the windway when used in combination with the third valve. Valve type: 3 Périnet-type valves. Overall size: 889; bell 397. Bore: v.t.s. (1,2,3) 17.0; m.t.s. 18.0 - 22.1. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 13.7 - 13.0. Inscribed on bell "LEVIATHAN / MODEL / CLASS / A / NEW STANDARD" / monogram FB / "Prototype / COMPENSATOR" / "50 MEDALS OF HONOUR" within banner / "BESSON & CO / 198 EUSTON ROAD / LONDON / ENGLAND" / five pointed star; on side of valve casings "4", "BESSON & CO / BREVETE" within ellipse / "119357 / 5", "6".
