Description3-valve compensating. According to the firm's archives [instrument books], the actual maker was A. Cave, the instrument was "BBb Contrabass", Model A95a, made by A. Cave in a batch of 2. Technical description: Silver-plated brass. 3-valve compensating system: 3rd valve brings loop into windway which passes through 1st and 2nd valves, these have short additional loops which are brought into the windway when used in combination with the third valve. Valve type: 3 Périnet-type valves; `Solbron' bronze pistons. Repair History: Main tuning-slide extended to lower from Old Philharmonic pitch and given cranked layout to enable insertion and removal. Overall size: 1035; bell 421. Bore: v.t.s. (1,2,3) 17.6, m.t.s. 19.7 - 23.1. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 13.6 - 12.8. Inscribed on bell "Imperial Model / SOLBRON / (REGISTERED) / CLASS A" / trumpet and banner trademark "BOOSEY" / "COMPENSATING PISTONS / BOOSEY & CO / MAKERS. / LONDON / 117399 / British Throughout"; on side of valve casings "4", "5", "6"; on valve top caps "PATENT 4", "PATENT 5", "PATENT 6"; on side of 2nd valve casing "90992".
