Copy of unattributed instrument recovered from the 1545 wreck of the 'Mary Rose' (81A5846). Performance characteristics: Plays major scale (tone, tone, semitone tuning). Usable pitch: If lowest note is A, sounding A⁴ = c 442 Hz (c 10 cents above A⁴ = 440 Hz); if lowest note is B, sounding A⁴ = c 394 Hz (c 190 cents below A⁴ = 440 Hz). Original thumb-hole has been filled and reboared futher up the tube; upper edge of window has been adjusted and filled. |
