DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; 3 sections; brass key with silver inlay; 4 ivory ferrules; circular embouchure-hole. Keymount type: ring. Keyhead type: square, slightly raised, with inlay around angled edges. Repair History: Cracks in head and lower body sealed; tenons relapped with cork; key replacement by J. & R. Glen, 1972. Overall size: 385 mm Sounding length: embouchure to foot, 332 mm Bore: conical Stamped with fleur-de-lis and "D'ALMAINE & CO / LATE / GOULDING & D'ALMAINE / SOHO SQUARE / LONDON / 6" (stamp has slipped). The inclusion of the inscription of "Late Golding and D'Almaine" suggests that the instrument was made soon after the buisness changed name to "D'Almane & Co" (1834) Performance characteristics: Range D⁴ - A⁶ (sounding B♭⁴ - F⁷). Plays well throughout range. Usable pitch: Sounding A⁴ c 447 Hz. |
