DescriptionTechnical description: African blackwood with probably silver keys. Sockets are lined probably with german silver. Semi-automatic octave keys. The conservatoire mechanism is on R1 only (despite the L2 spat). There is an extra bell vent for low B♭. The R2 plate is independent of the R3 ring although both close the brille and both are on the same axle. Depressing the low C key lowers the R2 plate and R3 ring and closes the brille. There is a linkage enabling low B to be played with R4 on the low C or C♯ key. System: Conservatoire L0: 8.1; 8.3. L1: PP; 8.2; spat. L2: R; Dtr-alt; spat. L3: R; D♭tr. L4: G♯; low B; low B♭; E♭-alt. R0: sup. R1: R; G♯tr; B♭tr. R2: PP; Dtr. R3: R; F; BAN-low C. R4: low C; C♯; E♭.closed standing forked F vent. Performance characteristics: Excellent, even response and intonation. Rather thinner tone quality than would be expected from the present day equivalent of this instrument. Usable pitch: A₄ = 440 Hz. Signature/Marks: The instrument is stamped on all 3 sections “MARIGAUX / A / PARIS”. The bell is additionally stamped “PARIS / S.M.L.” The fitted case, in artificial leather, is by Lorée. Keymount type: pillars. Keyhead type: cup. |
