DescriptionThis instrument has a soundboard of spruce; ribs, back, neck and scroll of maple; fingerboard, tailpiece, tail-gut protector of ebony; pegs and endbutton of rosewood. The instrument has an orange varnish and dyed pear/poplar/dyed pear purfling. The soundboard is medium grained. The ribs have holes drilled in them at each of the bouts. Very fine figure on the two piece back, figure rising from the edges to the centre. Plugged hole on the back at the top, offset from the centre line. Unvarnished neck, 84mm long. The head has been grafted onto the neck.
Measurements: Fingerboard 184mm long, 23.9mm wide at nut, 35.7mm wide at bottom. Soundboard arch 14.5mm; back arch 14mm
Inscription: Labelled "CARLEEN HUTCHINS / SUS No 119 / Montclair. N.J. 1973 / (Violin in Hi G)", the '119', '73' and '(Violin in Hi G)' all handwritten, the rest printed. "CMH" monogram on label.
