Description2 keys. Technical description: Brass; two-coil; key nearer bell open-standing, other closed-standing; key further from bell and box-like bridge or finger-rest mounted on conical bell yard ferrule. Bit of brass; crook of brass with german silver or plated mouthpiece receiver ferrule, tubes too closely spaced for good fit to instrument. Keymount type: brass saddles, spring acting in channels. Keyhead type: flat, round. Repair History: Crook a replacement. Overall size: 379; bell 114. Sounding length: without bits or crooks to keyhole centres, 1584; 1802; overall 1913; overall length of bit 37.2; length of crook air column (single coil) 245. Bore: at c 70mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore), 10.9; at 957mm from bell end, c 11.5; at c 292mm from bell end, 16.3. B = 0.73 (no toneholes open). Dia of mouthpiece receiver: Shank/crook receiver taper 12.4 - 11.3. Bit internal taper 9.7 - 8.8; external taper 9.2 - 11.2. Crook internal taper 11.2 - 10.4; external taper 10.8 - 11.6. Inscribed on bell garland "J ALEXANDER, 101, LEADENHALL STREET. LONDON"; crook inscribed on diamond-shaped silver plaque "M.♭". Decorative features: Five traditional barley-twist ferrules, conical barley-twist ferrule on bell yard in place of ball; embossed bell garland. Splits in main tubing bows at proximal end of instrument. Crude solder repairs to stay between bell section and middle yard, and between mouthpipe and middle yard, the latter solder broken. Crack at pivot of keywork for lower key. Pads missing from both key mechanisms. External taper of crook partly broken off. Crook a replacement.
