Description

3 valves. Technical description: brass; fitting for music card holder. With long main tuning-slide for B♭. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, bottom sprung; alignment by key on piston. Repair History: The C tuning-slide is a replacement by North Winds, made 17-24 February 2006. Probably it was built in C with an extension piece (adding c 284mm to the sounding length) to be inserted between the body and the main tuning-slide to give B♭; at some point the main tuning-slide was shortened and soldered into the extension piece. Overall size: 653; bell 223. Sounding length: minimum 2320 (in C); minimum 2604 (in Bb). Bore: mouthpipe at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 10.75; m.t.s. at c 257mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bores 12.6 13.05; centre of valve cluster at c 511mm from mouthpiece receiver (in C), v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 13.35; at 1302mm from bell end, c 21.6; at 1160mm from bell end, c 25.3; at 1025mm from bell end, 30.5; at c 879mm from bell end, 35.8. B = 0.43 (in C); B = 0.47 (in Bb). Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.0 - 11.1. Inscribed on front of bell with Gautrot trademark of anchor and rope and "G A" within ellipse / F. SOLAS / A SENS"; on rear of bell "G" within 5 pointed star / "30,000" / ellipse containing "SAXHORN / 5 / BASSE" / monogram AS with "AUTORISE" and "G.A. PARIS" on stems of letters; on mouthpiece receiver ferrule "CH" and, at 90, "B"; on side of valve casings "1", "2", "3". General literature references: Haine 1980 81. Usable pitch: With existing main tuning slide, plays in Bb c 50 cents above A4 = 440 Hz; the higher natural notes being sharper than the lower.
