DescriptionTechnical description: 3 detachable valves with ascending third piston, which raises pitch by 2 semitones. Alternative tuning-slide sections for use as a natural horn. Brass; angle between axis of mouthpipe / crook receiver and axis of bell 140°; gusseted bell, no garland; water-key on tubing between crook receiver and main tuning-slide; cork-covered metal guide on ferrule on main tubing to prevent damage when assembling and taking apart. With 1-coil crook for F with water key. Note that an F crook for an ascending valve horn is the same size as the G crook for a descending valve horn. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves. Serial number: 3993. Model 267. Overall size: perpendicular to bell 425; corpus diameter 335; bell diameter 222. Sounding length: segment lengths: from distal end of ferrule after valves 574; bell segment 908. Bore: at distal end of crook: 11.1; m.t.s. 11.1; v.t.s. (3,2,1) 11.1. Bell flare: - Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. of crook 8.1 at end; crook external taper 11.6 - 12.5. Crook receiver taper on body 13.3 - 12.3. Inscribed on bell: "BUFFET / Crampon & Co / A PARIS" within ellipse surmounted by lyre, with monogram "BC" below. Inscribed around bell: "Evette & Schaeffer Ince Mon Buffet Crampon & Cie 18 & 20 Passage du Gd Cerf Paris". Inscribed on side of 2nd valve: "BUFFET / Crampon & Co / A PARIS" within ellipse surmounted by lyre, with monogram "BC" below, and on side and bottom caps of valves: "4", "5", "6". Inscribed on crook "SOL" on rectangular silver plate. Canvas fitted case with hard lid. Usable pitch: With slide in and with valves, plays at A4 = 440 Hz. Performance characteristics: Plays freely as a natural horn; more stuffy with valves.
