The mechanism and pads are in need of adjustment and repair. The R1 hole is very worn. There are a few chips and marks on the instrument; one is a slightly indented mark roughy square in shape with a side of approximately 8mm, this is on the back of the lower section slightly above the thumb rest. Usuable pitch: possibly orginally Old Philharmonic pitch (A4 = 453 Hz); due perhaps to changes in the bore it is now A4 = c 450 Hz. Performance characteristcis: using a sharter reed than woiuld be used for a modern oboe, the instrument has a bright, almost hard tone quality, with excellenty precise attack and good intonation. |
