Valve type: 3 rotary valves; clock spring mechanism; cork buffers mounted on rotor spindles. Repair History: Repairs to first bow. Valve mechanism possibly not original. Valve tuning-slide probably not original. Overall size: 437; bell 126. Sounding length: minimum 1679. Bore: mouthpipe at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (local minimum bore) 11.1; centre of valve cluster at c 183mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,) 10.35, (3) 11.0; m.t.s. at c 734mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 10.55; at 840mm from bell end, c 10.55; at c 417mm from bell end, 14.9; at 13.5mm from bell end, 79.5. B = 0.77. Bell cutoff = 1300 Hz. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 11.9 - 11.3. Inscribed on bell above garland "FRIEDRICH GESSNER BRESLAU 14"; on valve top caps "4". Decorative features: Decorated valve caps (2 abstract, 1 floral). Performance characteristics: 6th natural note very sharp. Usable pitch: Plays more than 100 cents above A⁴ 440 Hz; pulling main tuning-slide 48mm, lowers pitch to 20 cents above A⁴ = 440 Hz. Purchased by lender with mouthpiece (2872).
