DescriptionTechnical description: Brass; german silver mouthpiece receiver, stay mounts, large bow guard and garland. With music card-holder fitting. Valve type: 3 rotary valves; clock spring mechanism; cork buffers mounted on rotor spindles. Repair History: Repairs to first bow. Valve mechanism possibly not original. Valve tuning-slide probably not original.
Inscribed on bell above garland "FRIEDRICH GESSNER BRESLAU 14"; on valve top caps "4".
Decorated valve caps (2 abstract, 1 floral).
Performance characteristics: 6th natural note very sharp.
Usable pitch: Plays more than 100 cents above A⁴ 440 Hz; pulling main tuning-slide 48mm, lowers pitch to 20 cents above A⁴ 440 Hz.
Specific usage history: Acquired and probably previously used in Vienna.
