DescriptionTechnical description: Compass A - A₇, three octave span 491.5. Small upright piano with protruding keyboard surmounting helical legs (`spiral columns'). Case of burr walnut. Ivory natural touchplates length 47, ebony accidental touchplates length 98. `Barley sugar twist' legs attached to the frame pieces which extend from the rear section of the case. Depth of the case not including the projecting keyboard 340. Single strung A - E♭₁, double strung E₁ - C♯₂, triple strung D₂ - A₇ Two pedals, the left-hand a `celeste' inserting a strip of felt; the right-hand a sustain. Music desk attached to the main part of the case, not the keyboard projection. Instrument on castors. Serial number: 30153 B. Overall size: 1230. Body width: 1380. Body depth: 584. Signature/Marks: Inscribed above the keyboard "John Broadwood & Sons / London"; stamped on the wrestplank inside at the top right-hand side "30153 B"; handwritten by the note names by the wrestpin "A. Bayley / 345, Mary Vale Ro... / Bournville / Late D F / Bhm", the latter standing for Dale, Forty, Birmingham. Decorative features: Burr walnut case. Green ruffled silkwork with elaborate fretwork at the front of the main case section above and below the protruding keyboard. Repair History: Overhauled to playing condition by Arthur Chappell, 1977. The fretwork above keyboard replaced with the from another piano (supplied by Roy Mickleburgh), fitted and extended by Andrew Garlick, 1978. Green silk cloth fitted by Andrew and Jane Garlick, 1978. Green ruffled silk has faded to brown by exposure to air. |
