DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; 2 finger-holes, 1 thumb-hole. This is a copy of an instrument recovered from the 1545 wreck of the 'Mary Rose' (81A1191), stamped "!!" (possibly by a member of the Bassano family). Performance characteristics: Plays major scale (tone, tone, semitone tuning). Usable pitch: If lowest note is F, sounding A⁴ = c 479 Hz (c 160 cents above A⁴ = 440 Hz); if lowest note is G, sounding A⁴ = c 429 Hz (c 40 cents below A⁴ = 440 Hz). |
