Technical Description:
This sarangi is a wooden bowed instrument with a U-shaped bottom and a hollow belly. Body measures 660mm from top to base. Two inlaid ivory panels decorate the fingerboard. At the bottom of the body, a carved band in a diamond-shape pattern provides some ornamentation. Bone nut. Width at the belt is 150mm. Depth at the belt is 105mm. Parchment sound-table, reinforced with a leather strip upon which the bridge is intended to rest. The bridge has a curved top and is double-arched on its uderside; 9 notches on the top and 30 holes through its body. Strings are largely detahced from these holes and are tangled. There are 4 melodic pegs and 31 sympathetic pegs. |
