Description | In 2014, a forest of thousand trees was planted near Oslo that will provide paper for a collection of 100 books written over the next 100 years. Each year, a new author will be invited to write a text for the project. The finished manuscripts will remain unpublished and unread until 2114, when the tress will be cut down and the library printed. The University of Edinburgh will then receive Future Library.
David Mitchell, Margaret Atwood and Sjón are the first three authors to write for the Future Library. Until 2114, the manuscripts will be held in the New Deichmanske Public Library, Oslo, and a Trust will continue the project after the artist’s death.
