The bass (or baritone) oboe is pitched in C an octave below the common oboe. The modern straight model was developed in 1889 by Lorée. This example at one time belonged to the leading British player of the bass oboe, Leonard Brain. The instrument is stamped on all three sections “F. LOREE” / five pointed star / “PARIS”, with the text forming an oval around the star. The serial number (P90) is on the reverse of all three sections. Lent by Morven Bell.
