Maker Biography

Collard & Collard (c 1832) is best known as a London-based piano company, but the firm also sold other musical instruments. The company succeeded the firm Clementi & Co following Muzio Clementi’s retirement in 1815. As a piano manufacturer, the firm was very successful, especially during the late-19th century. It was sold to Chappell Piano Company in 1929 and the name was used in piano manufacture until about 1960.

Sounding length: 1193. Bore. at c 40mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore), 10.0; at 597mm from bell end, c 19.0; at c 287mm from bell end, 26.9. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 11.5 - 10.6.

Inscription: on bell garland "Collard & Collard / LONDON" and "No 2 COMPANY / 92nd G. HIGHRS"; on front of bell (written sideways) "G.H. / 3".

Lent with mouthpiece (3224).
