Lothian Health Services Archive Object Collection

TitleLothian Health Services Archive Object Collection
DescriptionLHSA has built up a collection of c.1000 objects in the last 30 years as a result of hospital closures and reorganisations. LHSA has accessioned a range of items that were considered to be at risk. The majority of the objects are historical, surgical and scientific instruments, but there is also a collection of bed plaques and donor boards as well as a number of other artefacts including clocks, silverware, textiles and a small number of works of art. The objects have all been photographed and catalogued into a database. A small number of the historic bed plaques are on long-term display in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh as part of the ‘Narratives’ installation, which opened in 2009. A subsequent installation on the same site sees a range of nursing badges on display with contemporary responses. For further information on LHSA’s collections and services please see www.lhsa.lib.ed.ac.uk.
