| Description | The small manuscript archive, held in tandem with the Sound Archive, is composed mainly of donations from individuals and copies of notable manuscripts located elsewhere as well as in-house material relating to the history and collections of the Archives. Material is in Gaelic, Scots and English and there are also song and music collections. Among resources emanating from the work of the School of Scottish Studies are the Donald John MacDonald MSS containing tales and tradition from South Uist and the Calum Maclean Notebooks, transcriptions of tales from Highland areas collected in the 1950s. Donations and deposits include the Lady Evelyn Stewart Murray MSS, 19th century tales in Perthshire Gaelic, field notes from Joan and Tom Flett containing dance notation and the MacLagan MSS, some 9000 pages of folklore material collected over a century ago as part of a survey entitled Folklore of the West Highlands. |
