Description
Small, narrow box-resonator fiddle in the shape of a rounded oblong, tapering towards a short neck, with pear-shaped pegbox and three gut strings. One-piece body, neck and pegbox in pale wood; separate top plate with slot-shaped sound-holes. Peg-box has a deep, ridged profile. Three pegs in darker wood set into front face of pegbox; back of pegbox open to allow changing of strings. Fingerboard of dark-stained wood set into the neck, with elipse and tulip-shaped cut-outs. Small, narrow bridge present in position. Chalice-shaped tailpiece, also in dark-stained wood, secured to the base of the body via two metal pins.
Associated bow: Straight-stick bow strung with horsehair attached using would (plastic?) tape. Bowhair has little tension, suggesting application by the player using an underhand bowhold. Overall length of bow 560mm. |
