Description
Technical description: White wood, tapering, silver ferrule on handle and silver tip at handle end.
Engraved monogram on silver ferrule "D F T".
With fitted case with hinged lid, covered with brown leather, with blue velvet covered floor and white silk lined lid; the lid lining printed with a crown / "Brook & Son / Goldsmiths to the King / 87, George Street, / Edinburgh"; silver plate on case inscribed "FIRST PERFORMANCE / THE BRIDE OF DIONYSUS / to Professor Tovey / FROM HIS STUDENTS 23rd April 1929".

Specific usage history: The première of Tovey's opera ~The Bride of Dionysus~ was given by the Edinburgh Opera Company and the Reid Orchestra in the Empire Theatre (now the Festival Theatre), Edinburgh, on 23rd April 1929. |
