DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; [5 sections]; silver keys and 2 cutters; ivory ferrules and studs; left-hand pipe has 7 finger-holes (top one containing ebony plug), and keys for D and D♯; right-hand pipe has 5 finger-holes, and keys for C (thumb, with ebony plug in key-hole), B and D♯; the lowest `finger-hole' on each pipe may be intended as a vent-hole; [two-part wind-cap]; block for patent high C key present on head section but not cut and no key-hole drilled. Keymount type: ring/knob. Keyhead type: flat square, notched and chamfered. Performance characteristics: Not playable in present condition; [lowest six-finger note (LH pipe) sounds B♭⁴]. Usable pitch: Sounding A⁴ = c 453 Hz (c 50 cents above A⁴ = 440 Hz). No maker's mark; stamped on each pipe with note names and numbers by respective finger-holes, and with note name by D keyhead. |
