DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; [5 sections]; silver keys and 2 cutters; ivory foot ferrules and studs; left-hand pipe has 6 finger-holes (top one containing ebony plug), keys for E, D, F and D♯, and vent-hole on lowest keymount; right-hand pipe has 4 finger-holes, keys for C (thumb, with ebony plug in key-hole), B, F and D♯, and vent-hole at foot; `New C key' on head section, played by L1; [two-part wind-cap]. Keymount type: ring/knob. Keyhead type: flat octagonal. Stamped with royal coat of arms and "BAINBRIDGE / INVENTOR / 35 / HOLBORN / HILL / LONDON / NEW / PATENT"; stamped on each pipe with note names and numbers by all finger-holes; stamped with key names by all keyheads except D♯ on RH pipe; "C key" stamped beside keyhead on head section. Performance characteristics: Not playable in present condition; [lowest six-finger note (LH pipe) sounds D⁵]. |
