Description
Technical description: Nine tubes gradated lengths, distal ends cut diagonally; acoustically effective end of each tube determined by a natural node; tubes of type of cane such as elephant grasss, bound together with thin strip of tyre inner-tube rubber over two rectangular 'cheeks' of wood.
Overall size: longest pipe 335mm; shortest pipe 87.5mm.
Sounding length: longest pipe 257mm; shortest pipe 84mm.
General usage of type: Played hocket fashion in ensemble with other panpipes (minimum number usually three) and often accompanied by drums, a flute, fiddle, rattle and thumb piano.
This is the largest of a set of three, others are (3277) and (3278). |
