Technical description: A small metal pipe (about two inches long) with a reed the vibrating length of which is adjustable by means of a graduated curved piece of metal on which is marked the names of the notes; calibrated in semitones from F₃ to F₄.
Curved scale stamped "F", " # ", "G", " # ", "A", "Bb", "B", "C", " # ", "D", " # ", "E", "F".
Usable pitch: measured at ends & mid scale: "F4", measured frequency +/- 0.1 cents, 345.78 Hz; F4 -17.2 cents with respect to A4 = 440 Hz. "A4", measured frequency +/- 0.1 cents, 435.12 Hz; A4 -19.3 cents with respect to A4 = 440 Hz. "F5", measured frequency +/- 0.1 cents, 699.48 Hz; F5 +2.5 cents with respect to A4 = 440 Hz.
Mean, -11.3 cents with respect to A4 = 440 Hz; equivalent to A4 = 437.1 Hz. |
