DescriptionTechnical description: Sycamore violin half-template. When viewed as the treble side it shows - the arch over the length and the thickness (marked with the assistance of spike marks); straight lines across for the bouts, points and waist, and the arching at those parts; the position of the lower block; the position of the f-holes (it can be seen that the holes have been done with a punch and the curves scribed on, and the top of the f-hole is level with the waist); the purfling cutting around the edge and slots cut in two places; a perpendicular line to the edge from the bottom of the f-hole; the inside of each point (and marks in-between); halfway between the f-hole nicks; parallel lines used as "symmetry" lines down the f-hole; inside edge of the top circle of the f-hole, and outside of the lower circle; a light scribed line showing the position where the bottom of the f-hole touches the perpendicular line; and an angled line in the lower bout, just missing the outside edges of the lower part of the f-hole. When viewed as the bass side it shows - a partial cutting of the edge "hollow" at the upper bout; a straight line parallel to the edge, 4.4mm away from it; arching along the length and the waist; a partial scribed line (2-3 inches long) 5.5mm from the edge area near the lower point and waist; and traces of f-hole curve backs in the lower bout.
