DescriptionTechnical description: Cocus wood with silver ferrules and keywork. Four pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, one-piece body and bell. Mouthpiece with a short table grooved with 16 grooves for cord. Hole for the speaker on the front of the instrument, chimney. Very small thumb rest. The bell starts higher on the instrument than normal, and carries the B♮ tone-hole. Simple system with throat B♮ and duplicate touchpiece for C♯₄/G♯₅ to enable the player to trill G₅-G♯₅. Metal rollers on touchpieces of G♯₃/E♭₅ and F₃/C₅ keys for R4 and on G♯₃/E♭₅ and E₃/B♮₄ keys for L4. Early use of rod mechanism with angled rods for A, A♭ and speaker keys. Typical delicate Ward keywork. L0: T; speaker with diagonally set rod. L1: T; A♮ with diagonally set rod. L2: T; A♭ sharing rod with A♮. L3: T; cross E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: cross C♯₄/G♯₅ with double touch; rod E₃/B♮₄; rod G♯₃/E♭₅. R1: T; rod F₄/C♮₆. R2: spectacle ring (shares rod with throat B♭); rod throat trill key for B♮ (shares rod with F₄/C♮₆).
