Sounding length: segment lengths: to proximal ferrule of valve segment 652; from distal ferrule of valve segment 734; bell segment 903. Bore: 67.5mm from bell end, 120 Bell wall angle at D=100mm, 23.8. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 8.6 7.8. Technical description: Brass; angle between axis of mouthpipe / crook receiver and axis of bell 146; lightweight construction; single gusset in bell, no garland. Graduated plunger on Stölzel valve principle to select desired tonality. Total travel 122mm. The loops are added incrementally, i.e. for Bb basso, the windway passes through all eight loops. The plunger has eight straight through passages plus lowermost passage turning windway from side entry to casing of plunger which continues into the bell pipe. Inscribed on slide of omnitonic system with 9 lines at spacing approximately 15.2mm marked respectively "SIb", "UT", "RE", "MIb", "MI", "FA", "SOL" and "LA", the last line, for Bb, lacks its note name. Piston of omnitonic system broken at uppermost (Bb basso) passage; most of piston stuck in casing, the small top portion turned round and stuck in the graduated channel. Probable handle or knob on piston top broken off and missing. Many old patch repairs. Lent with but probably not formerly used with mouthpiece (3364). Specific literature references: G.S. (1968) No 287. Illustration references: G.S. (1968) Plate XV (2). |
